A star is born.

ABOUT US

We are Hanan Masri and Samantha Smith. With High Road Scholars, we’ve made it our business to be about life support for young people willing and able to take a look around and get to know life on our planet, a sixth sense survey of the infinite big and small. We know learning is lifelong and High Road Scholars intends to have fun while at it!

Meet the founders.

  • Co-Founder

I am a long time teacher with over 26 years of experience in the classroom as well as certifications in both nutrition and herbalism. Supporting young people in pursuit of their passions and helping them build a community that genuinely cares about their well being and success is what I love to do. Writing, dance, and food/plant alchemy are my teaching centerpieces but truly I am piqued and humbled by the plentitude of life's mystery, a self avowed life long learner.

  • Co-Founder

I’ve been teaching youth cooking and the outdoors for 15 years. A kid at heart, I know the pangs of a precocious mind and recall the impressions left by people, places, and things experienced in the formative years. I’m a teacher who aims to link the relationship between physical, mental, and practical life long learning. My favored classrooms: the peaks, paths, and shores of this world.

Supporting stars.

At High Road Scholars, our mentors mirror multicultural, multigenerational, and intersectional human nature. We’ll exchange customs, preferences, and patient wisdom while inviting our youth’s engagement at their own pace. Our gatherings are transformative instruments — social, artful, good times with good people, strengthening the ties that bind. All are welcome.

We believe:

A team mindset.

Our guides, mentors, and you form our groups. While together, we’re obligated to listen up, speak up, help out, and look out for one another. With good group connection, there’s nowhere we can’t go.

Clear, trustworthy communication.

We give feedback to our youth that is helpful, honest, supportive, and constructive. You can count on this from us.

Respecting boundaries.

For the sake of joy and safety, it is vital for our programs to be placed on respected boundaries in space, word, and deed.

Leaving it better than you found it.

How will you leave your mark? In nature, we pick up the vestiges for future legions of life to enjoy. We want energetic imprints too, a remembrance of skills learned and endearing people met.

Give to the gold.

Catapult another camper! Give if you can and help us build our scholarship fund, supporting access and attendance. 100% goes to our youth and their families.

To date, 5 families have benefited from the generosity of our community!

What we’re all about.

Out and about.
